WIAA Tournament Classification Appeal

Use this form to present the WIAA Competitive Balance Committee with a clear, factual case for your appeal or request. Complete all sections, attach the required documents, and address each WIAA criterion with supporting evidence and context. Your submission should clearly illustrate your program's competitive position, as well as any factors or circumstances beyond your control.

Due dates for requests are as follows:

Using the factors below (outlined in Appendix N of the Senior High Handbook), provide a clear and detailed explanation of why you believe an appeal should be granted. Support your response with specific data, examples, and historical context that illustrate your program’s unique circumstances. Emphasize any competitive disadvantages and circumstances beyond your control that have affected your ability to compete equitably. Your goal is to give the committee a complete and accurate understanding of your school’s competitive position.

1. Prior year out-of-building student percentage on rosters or historical movement of student-athletes

3. Demographics of the school’s population
4. Competitive history and balance
5. Geography
6. School's enrollment trend
7. Student participation rate in WIAA-sponsored activities
8. Student enrollment factors (e.g., open enrollment, students from outside your school’s location)

Attach a letter from your District Administrator, or the appropriate school representative, confirming their support for this request / appeal. The letter should reference and affirm the accuracy of the information provided, outline the rationale for the request / appeal, and express the district’s endorsement of the appeal or request.
